UncategorizedThis is not a professional photography site, but a site of our vacation pictures. While you might see some really great photos here, creating ‘art’ isn’t really the main intent. The main point for us has always been the subjects, not the photos themselves. We take pictures because human memory is fleeting, and we want to preserve what we’ve seen and be able to call it up for years in more than mere memory or imagination.
But of course, neither of us is immune from the desire to take a great picture, either <g>. We just don’t let that desire take over–the point is recording what we see, not recording instead of seeing. But, so approached, we both feel that having a camera in our hands allows us to see more and notice more while we’re traveling. The very act of taking pictures focuses the mind and attention on the present, on the real in front of us. Trying to get a shot helps us see and notice the remarkable, the typical, and the human. So taking pictures not only aids memory, it actually helps us take in more to remember.
So that explains the photos, if not the site. The site is simply a matter of sharing–travel can be expensive, and we’re privileged in still being healthy enough and able to do it. If you’ve been to all or any of the places we have, we hope these pictures help you recall your own experiences to mind. It’s like getting a second vacation for free. And if you haven’t, or haven’t been able to yet, perhaps there’s enough here to help you imagine or plan travels of your own. The world is a huge place; no one gets to see it all.
Good journeys.
